Spring Break 2012 in San Diego

We got to enjoy spring break this year in San Diego.  My brother has a home there. He and his family are in  Houston, however, for an oral surgery rotation, but they were kind enough to let us stay there anyway.  We really appreciate Jared and Janelle for letting us stay there.  The temps were in the 80s before we got there, but actually stayed around 60 for the week we were there (boo).  We had a great time together though.  We went to Point Loma and played in the tide pools and then hung out at Seal Cove in La Jolla.  We had lots of fun eating at the Corvette Diner (which moved locations by-the-way) too.  We ate great Mexican food in Old Town and even panned for gold at the Mormon Batallion.  We can't wait to go back.  The only thing that would've made it better was if Jared and his family were there to play with us.

Here's some pics at the San Diego Temple.

La Jolla.  There were about 25 surfers there.  We watched them from some benches for about an hour.  Great view.

Point Loma tide pools.  The kids found crabs, an octopus, shells, snails, and a dead lobster.  They loved it there.

Mission Beach

Casey Ann's parents rented a beach house at Mission Beach in San Diego, near Balboa Park this summer. So we made the 19 hour drive to San Diego to hang with her family for a week. Very long drive, but... we had lots of fun. I think we were about 5 houses from the boardwalk. There was also a roof-top terrace that you could see the bay on one side and the beach and the other side. The weather was great and kids had a hay-day with all there cousins. Thanks grandma and grandpa!!

This is the Wave House, where they have two man-made wave machines where surfers can get their surf on and let everyone check out their skills. This was really fun to watch.

She wasn't very happy to ride the carousel (yeah right).

Silver Strand Beach

This last weekend we drove over to San Diego for Jared's baby blessing of his little girl, Madalyn. Grandma Karen drove over there with us. We stayed at Jared's house, which is Naval housing. It was actually a really nice home and neighborhood.

On Saturday we went down to Silver Strand Beach, south on Coronado Island. We had never been down that far before on the island. The beach was really big. The kids love the beach. They get that from their mother. Jared's in-laws took us there and we played touch football and played in the water, which wasn't very cold. They found lots of shells and sand dollars and even a couple of big clams (I guess) that grandma Karen and Kristin gutted and then boiled the shells to keep. They smelled really bad though. Jared wasn't happy to have the smell in his house.

We had a great time there, the weather was perfect!

Brynley and Sadie had fun chasing the seagulls.
