Spring Break 2012 in San Diego

We got to enjoy spring break this year in San Diego.  My brother has a home there. He and his family are in  Houston, however, for an oral surgery rotation, but they were kind enough to let us stay there anyway.  We really appreciate Jared and Janelle for letting us stay there.  The temps were in the 80s before we got there, but actually stayed around 60 for the week we were there (boo).  We had a great time together though.  We went to Point Loma and played in the tide pools and then hung out at Seal Cove in La Jolla.  We had lots of fun eating at the Corvette Diner (which moved locations by-the-way) too.  We ate great Mexican food in Old Town and even panned for gold at the Mormon Batallion.  We can't wait to go back.  The only thing that would've made it better was if Jared and his family were there to play with us.

Here's some pics at the San Diego Temple.

La Jolla.  There were about 25 surfers there.  We watched them from some benches for about an hour.  Great view.

Point Loma tide pools.  The kids found crabs, an octopus, shells, snails, and a dead lobster.  They loved it there.

4th of July

We had lots of fun this weekend over the 4th. Well, at least the kids did.  I was stuck studying most of the time.  I did take Saturday off and enjoyed a fun BBQ with family and friends.  We played a little put-put on Danny's new putting green, swam and broke in Dan's new grill with marinated turkey (our family favorite).

Enjoy some pics and a video or two.

Liberation...

Finally taught Sadie and Diesel how to ride their bikes today without training wheels.  Had to repair 4 flats this morning and decided not put the training wheels back on.  I loaded up Sadie and Diesel and their bikes and went across the highway to the church parking lot.  We tried Sadie first.  I ran behind her two times and then let go.  She did really well until she turned around to see if I was still there, then she crashed.  She was a little distrusting after that.  But she kept going.  So after another two times holding on she went on her own and that was that.  She did great.  She was all smiles.

When it was Diesel's turn, he heard me telling Sadie to keep pedaling and you won't fall, and to pedal fast.  So as he sat on the seat and I steadied him, I said the same thing.  I pushed him away (without running and holding on) and he took off like a race-car driver.  He rode the length of the parking lot really fast.  I forgot to instruct him on stopping though.  Needless to say, he had a nice spill and wasn't too happy, but he was eager to try again.  I reminded him of the brakes (which he knew how to use already) and then sent him on his way again.  And that was it.  He was cruising around the lot no problem.  In the meantime, while teaching Diesel, Sadie learned to start riding from a dead stop.

And that was it.  They were pros in about 20 minutes total.  Glad that's over with.

Here's some vids.

Ouchie!!

Sadie was swinging on a tree branch while Brynley was pushing her back and forth.  Brynley pushed a little too hard and she fell on her face.  Casey thinks it was broken, but I have to disagree.  I think she just took a pretty smack and kept on ticking.

But it was looking much better a couple weeks later

Poor nose

Sadie fell asleep in the car yesterday while running some errands. Her poor little nose was supporting her entire pumpkin on the seat belt.

Faces only parents could love...

Happy Birthday Sadie!

I'm a little late, but I'm going to post some pictures from Sadie's birthday. Sadie decided she wanted to have a tea party with her girlfriends. Our neighbor, Jen, and Casey made her cake together, and Casey decorated the house a little.

She was so excited! They made some princess crafty thing-a-ma-bobs and had a good ol' time. She is so proud to be four now.

We love you Sadie!
